LeMoyne Star Blocks with No Y-Seams
LeMoyne Stars are one of the most classic and beautiful traditional quilting blocks. But they tend to intimidate people because they often are created using the dreaded Y-seam. Or they are faked using Half Square Triangles.
My LeMoyne Star pattern creates a true LeMoyne Star block without using Y-Seams or HSTs. And there’s no fabric waste like in the stitch and flip or ‘snowball’ method.
The trick is in starting with a 45 degree diamond, and these are surprisingly easy to cut! My pattern includes two methods for cutting these diamonds. One uses a regular quilting ruler with a 45 degree marking and the other uses a diamond template, available on my website.

Would you like to use the LeMoyne Star Block in a quilt? It’s one of my favorite design elements and I’ve used it in four of my quilt patterns (so far!).
